Mangawhai Heads to Waipu

Butts sore and still recovering from our night in the backpackers lodge (poor beds and mosquitoes buzzing around our ears all night) we woke to spitting rain. We threw on our already wet clothes and headed out to...we weren't sure. We hopped on the road to Waipu and rode some steep, windy hills through beautiful tropical forests full of fern trees and cut terrain. This popped us out near the Jellicoe Channel and directly east of us the Great Barrier Island...which we couldn't see because of the rain. It was all gorgeous though. Along the road some interesting sites and tons of land/homes for sale.

Waipu, New Zealand's Largest Highlands Festival, was a great place to stop and eat meat pies and drink decaf coffee. It was there we decided to catch a bus to Paihia in the Bay of Islands. No more battling traffic and rain...instead we took the easy way out. Best $60.00 I've ever spent!
